Giving up on shovels!
At the advice of my neural networks professor I am giving up the pen and paper (…fraught with frustration and dead trees) approach to a computational approach. Currently this means running Matlab code within LaTeX — hopefully soon enough it will mean creating neural networks to design hardware.
